    Local-Grown Leadership

Senator Amanda L. Shelton is from the village of Asan and is the daughter of the late Senator Austin “Sonny” Shelton and Gracialla Shinohara Shelton. Amanda holds a master’s degree in public administration and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Communications from the University of Guam. She is a 2008 graduate of the Academy of Our Lady of Guam.

Senator Shelton is well known to the people of Guam. She is a member of the Guam Diamond Lions Club and Soroptimist International of the Marianas, a former vice president of the Guam Memorial Hospital Volunteers Association, and a past President of the University of Guam Alumni Association.

Even after becoming the youngest woman ever elected to serve in the Guam Legislature, Amanda has continued to volunteer as a CCD Teacher at her home Parrish of Niño Perdido y Sagrada Familia Catholic church in Asan. She is also a former GuamGirl Scouts Troop Leader.

Amanda’s passion for public service has been shaped by her lifelong ties to the community and federal and local policy experience pre-dating her election to office. She is a former Press Secretary for the GuamDelegate to Congress and a former policy advisor and chief of staff in the Guam Legislature. She is a graduate of the Council of State Governments Western Legislative Academy. Senator Shelton was first elected to office in 2018 and currently serves as Majority Leader. Her colleagues chose her to be their Legislative Secretary, and she has committee oversight responsibility for the airport, seaport, tourism, higher education, parks, youth, women’s issues, and senior citizens. Additionally, Senator Shelton has been a leading voice on issues of workforce development and renewable energy.

Her legislative record in Guam has been recognized by the National Council of State Legislatures, which last year chose her as one of 20 leaders from across the nation under the age of 40.
